• Complete an  Application for Admissions to the college.

• Have a high school diploma or GED/HISET equivalency on file with the admissions office and confirm that admissions received it. 

• Students must obtain a sponsorship with a qualified John Deere dealership. (Click here for required forms.) 

• Students must have a minimum ACT composite score of 15 or be eligible to take Intermediate Algebra and English Composition I. Students not meeting the minimum ACT requirement will be considered for acceptance if a signed dealer approved student form is on file. 

• Students must provide their own tools. See Tools tab for more information.  

• Students must provide their own laptop computer. 

Admissions to the college does not guarantee admissions to the program of study.

The provided tool list is for reference only and is not intended to be a defined list. Please consult with your sponsoring dealer if you plan to purchase John Deere tools.

Meter Specification:

• Fluke 177 or equivalent .

• Must be able to read volt, ohms and amps.

• The meter needs to have a separate milliamp and Amp jack.

Tool Box Specification:

• One, Two or Three stackable tool boxes.

• No wider than 36 inches.

Tool FAQ’s:

• Do I have to purchase every tool on the provided list?
  No, some students start with a smaller set and add on as they progress.

• Do I have to buy John Deere tools?
  No, NWCC JD Tech program does not have a strict preference on tool brands.

• Why am I only allowed a 36 inch wide tool box?
  Shop space gets very limited when labs are going on.

• If I do want to purchase John Deere Tools, how should I do it?
  You need to contact your dealer sponsor. He/she can explain the “Tools for Tech Students” program. Most dealers have their own prescribed tool list.

• I work at the dealership on weekends. May I take my tools home weekly?
  Yes, we highly encourage all students to take tools home weekly if they are needed. The instructors will assist with loading if needed.

• Will my tools be in a secure place?
  Student tools are locked in the labs daily but are not the responsibility of NWCC or the instructors. It is recommended that all tool boxes have locks.

• ‘Grandpa’ gave me his old tool box. Is it ok to use it?
  Yes, it will be perfectly fine but make sure it has plenty of metric tools in it. Metric tools weren’t as common 30 years ago.

Out‐Of‐State Scholarships: 

Northwest MS Community College offers 10 (ten) Out‐Of‐State scholarships every Fall for the incoming Freshman Class. Once a student is awarded the scholarship, he/she keeps it for the remainder of the program.

This scholarship is designed to cover out‐of‐state fees required over normal in‐state tuition. To be eligible the student MUST: 

1. Obtain a sponsorship through a John Deere dealer of choice. 
2. Meet ALL NWCC JD Tech program entrance requirements. 
3. Have ALL necessary paperwork on file at NWCC. 
4. Scholarships will be awarded on a First‐Come First‐Serve basis.
5. The first 10 (ten) I receive will get the award. 
6. If a student receives the award and does not attend, that award will go to the next candidate in order of which I received documents. 
7. All states are eligible for the award.
