Recreation

Recreation is a two-year curriculum is designed for those seeking to further their studies and obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree from a four-year institution. Graduates will find careers in therapeutic recreation and recreation administration such as campus recreation, church recreation, commercial recreation and in the military. This major is offered to students who seek employment as recreational professionals in public, private or volunteer agencies.

Education
There are several different names for degrees bestowed to recreation majors, including a Bachelor of Science in Sports and Recreation, a Bachelor of Science in Parks and Recreation, a Bachelor of Science in Recreation and Leisure, and a Bachelor of Science in General Recreation. Each degree program related to recreation provides students with the leadership and management skills necessary to work in outdoor parks, camps, public beaches and more. Each student majoring in recreation at a 4-year university should gain a strong liberal arts education with a particular emphasis on leadership and management skills. Some recreation programs ask students to select a concentration, such as outdoor education, leisure services, corporate fitness or sports management.
