Health and Physical Education

Health and Physical Education students learn and apply concepts in different subjects. Those who specialize in physical education teach students good exercise and health habits, educate them in sports and training techniques and prepare evaluations and classes according to class goals.

What can I expect from a career in Health and Physical Education?
A degree in Physical Education or Fitness Health prepares students for careers in physical education, fitness training and related fields. Student study subjects such as human anatomy, kinesiology, exercise techniques, instructional methods and sports theory, and may complete student teaching requirements. This degree program is best suited to those who enjoy working outdoors and being physically active. Depending on area of specialization, graduates of a degree program in Physical Education or Fitness Health might find employment as teachers, fitness trainers or recreation workers, among other possibilities.

The traditional route to becoming a public school teacher involves completing a bachelor’s degree from a teacher education program and then obtaining a license. However, most States now offer alternative routes to licensure for those who have a college degree in other fields. Private school teachers do not have to be licensed but may still need a bachelor’s degree.
