Frequently Asked Questions

Note: If your question is not answered here, please do not hesitate to contact our Director of Choral Activities.

Do I have to audition to be a part of the Northwest Choirs?
Yes. Students (both music majors and non-majors) are required to audition for choir. However, your audition is to give us the information we need for placement. So, rest assured, there is a place for YOU at Northwest.

How many choral ensembles do you have?
We have four (4) ensembles that make up the Northwest Choirs -
The Women of Northwest, the Men of Northwest, the Northwest Entertainers and the Northwest Chamber Choir.

Do I have to be a music major to be in choir?
Not at all! In fact, our choral program is about 80% non-music majors and we welcome anyone that wants to sing and contribute to our great organization!

How much time do the choral/vocal ensembles require?

Men of Northwest
: M/W from 11:00-11:50 AM
Women of Northwest: T/TH from 11:00-11:50 AM
Northwest Entertainers: M-TH from 1:00-1:50 PM
Northwest Chamber Choir: T/TH from 12:00-12:50 PM

Note: We typically perform anywhere from 2-4 performances per semester.

What kinds of scholarships are available?
The Department of Music offers scholarships to qualified students entering Northwest Mississippi Community College. Choral scholarships are available to students who elect to be music majors, or who simply want to participate in a choir as a non-music major. All students interested in receiving a choral scholarship must audition for the choral faculty. Scholarships are awarded based upon talent, and choral/vocal program needs.
