Northwest Bands

We generally conduct on-site auditions at high schools in our recruiting area.  Please also check back here for open audition dates that are held each semester or contact one of our directors or music instructors to schedule and audition.

For band placement and for band scholarship consideration, you will be asked for the following:

• A prepared piece
• Please do not bring ensemble music to perform.
• 3 major scales

• It is suggested that you select repertoire that best demonstrates your abilities.
• The band faculty will conduct your audition.
• If you have been taking private lessons, please bring your repertoire list.

Yes. Students (both music majors and non-majors) are required to audition for band.

The Ranger Marching Band, The Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Winds concert bands, the Jazz Band, The Jazz Quintet, the Steel Band, the Percussion Ensemble, and a variety other chamber ensembles.
 

Not at all! In fact, our ensembles are populated with mostly non-music majors and we welcome anyone that wants to play and contribute to any of our ensembles!

Marching Band rehearse M-Th from 3-5pm, with games on Thursday nights.

Concert Bands and all other ensembles typically meet M-Th for 1 hour (rehearsal times vary).  The Steel Band meets once a week for two hours (day and time TBA).

The Department of Music offers scholarships to qualified students entering Northwest Mississippi Community College. Band* scholarships are available to students who elect to be music majors, or who simply want to participate in band as a non-music major. All students interested in receiving a band scholarship must audition for the band faculty. Scholarships are awarded based upon talent and instrumental program needs.

*all band scholarships are based on participation in the marching band and then concert bands as the season changes.
