Biography

Lucia Nelson is an Art Instructor at Northwest Mississippi Community College, where she teaches Digital Art, Design, Art History, and Art Appreciation. A native of Senatobia, Mississippi, she has been a dedicated educator at NWCC since 2012.

Ms. Nelson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History with a minor in Studio Art from the University of Memphis. She later earned a Master of Arts in Art Education from the Memphis College of Art, where she was honored with the Area of Excellence Award upon graduation.

Before joining NWCC full-time, Ms. Nelson began her career with the Mississippi Department of Education, teaching studio art and art history. She is an active member of the Southeastern College Art Conference (SECAC) and has presented on topics such as appropriated art and music. She is also involved in community art organizations, including the DeSoto Arts Council and the Sycamore Arts Council in Tate County.

Art has been a lifelong passion for Ms. Nelson, inspiring her both professionally and personally. Her own artwork focuses on photography and mixed-media pieces, exploring the Southern landscape and the beauty that emerges through the passage of time and the natural world.
