Biography
James (Mackey) Harrison is an Art Instructor at Northwest Mississippi Community College, where he teaches Art Appreciation, Design I, and Painting. With a passion for figurative art, his work explores real-world subjects, including people, animals, landscapes, and still life. His preferred mediums include oil, acrylic, watercolor, and pastel.
Originally from Fort Myers, Florida, Mr. Harrison studied at Ringling College of Art and Design, where he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts, before completing a Master of Fine Arts at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. Throughout his career, he has taught at the elementary, middle school, high school, university, and community college levels, sharing his expertise with students of all ages.
In addition to teaching, Mr. Harrison has been actively involved in the arts community. He served as Vice President and President on the Board of Sycamore Arts in Tate County, MS, and previously worked as Assistant Collections Curator at the University Museums in Oxford, MS. His work has been showcased in group and solo exhibitions, and he has participated in workshops, lectures, and select publications.
Mr. Harrison draws artistic inspiration from a range of influences, from the Renaissance Masters to Art Nouveau and the Bay Area Figurative Artists of San Francisco.
