Biography

Ashley Chavis is an Art Instructor at Northwest Mississippi Community College, where he teaches Drawing, Ceramics, and Art Appreciation. In addition to his teaching role, he helps curate and maintain the department’s art gallery and serves as an advisor for the student art club, Les Fauves.

Mr. Chavis holds a Bachelor of Arts from Armstrong Atlantic State University and a Master of Fine Arts from The University of Mississippi.

An active studio artist, Mr. Chavis primarily creates functional pottery distinguished by its tactility and surface design. He also explores mixed-media drawing and painting, using vernacular objects as a means of artistic communication. His work has been showcased in over one hundred exhibitions, including numerous regional and national shows. Locally, his pieces can be found at Oxford Treehouse Gallery, Sycamore Arts, and the DeSoto Arts Council.

Dedicated to artistic philanthropy, Mr. Chavis has contributed to The Empty Bowls Project and Works of Heart for over twenty years. He is also a member of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) and the Southeastern College Art Conference (SECAC).
