2022 Commencement Speakers Announced

Northwest Mississippi Community College is proud to announce the speakers for the 2022 commencement ceremonies on May 6th, 2022. The college will hold three ceremonies; for the school of health sciences at 8:00 am, for career technical education graduates at 11:00 am, and for academic transfer graduates at 2:00 pm. 

Brian Hogan, the Administrator and Chief Executive Officer at Baptist Hospital-DeSoto, will deliver the commencement address for the Northwest School of Health Sciences graduation exercises at 8:00 am. Brian has served as a CEO over the past 12 years at three different Baptist hospitals. Baptist DeSoto is a 339-bed acute care hospital located in Southaven, Mississippi; it is the 3rd largest hospital in the 22-hospital Baptist Memorial Healthcare System and the 6th largest hospital in Mississippi. Brian has worked for Baptist Memorial Healthcare Corporation for his entire career, working his way through many positions, including bedside nurse, Head Nurse, Nurse Manager, Nurse Director, Chief Nursing Officer, and Chief Executive Officer. Brian has also completed his Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and Master’s of Science in Nursing during his career. Brian has been married to his wife Angie, who is also a nurse, for 23 years. Brian and Angie have three teenage daughters.  

Ryan Miller serves as the Executive Director of the Office of Workforce Development, also known as AccelerateMS, and will deliver the commencement address for the Career-Tech exercises at 11:00 am and the Academic exercises at 2:00 pm. His office is tasked with developing new workforce strategies designed to help Mississippians increase their career opportunities and assist Mississippi employers in needing a highly-skilled workforce. Legislation in 2020 created the office and vested within AccelerateMS the power to develop and deploy workforce strategies and solutions for the entire state. Ryan began his tenure as its first director in April 2021 and has started building a highly skilled team of committed professionals whom all share his passion for positive change. 

Previously, Ryan spent 13 years working within the Haley Barbour Center for Manufacturing Excellence (CME) at the University of Mississippi. In his years of service at the University, Ryan worked with the state community college system, state and federal legislative delegations, and economic development agencies as he positioned the CME to increase its service to industry and students. Ryan earned an undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi, Croft Institute for International Studies, and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Mississippi, School of Law. His experience and love for his home state drive his commitment to continuous improvement and enhanced opportunity. Ryan resides in Madison, MS, with his wife, Erin F. Miller, and their three children.
