Student Support Services
TRIO-Student Support Services (TRIO-SSS) is federally funded by the U.S. Department of Education to improve student retention, graduation, financial literacy, and overall academic success. TRIO-SSS provides free academic and engagement activities for qualified students throughout their enrollment at NWCC.
Eligibility Requirements
Students must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident in a degree-seeking transfer program, and meet at least ONE of the following criteria:
- First-generation college student (neither birth parent/legal guardian with whom you reside has a four-year degree)
- Have a financial need as defined by the U.S. Department of Education
- Documented disability (learning or physical)
All services are free to students. Those who are interested can pick up an application in the Student Support Services Office located in the McLendon Union Building, 2nd Floor, Room 202. Office hours are M-F 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Steps to Becoming a SSS Participant
- Must be a registered NWCC student
- Complete an SSS online application
- You will be contacted by email if all eligibility requirements are met
- Attendance of a brief Orientation for final paperwork
- Maintain SSS Student Requirements according to SSS Contract

- Information & counseling on financial aid programs and planning
- Assistance in completing the FAFSA
- Transfer assistance to four-year universities
- Academic & career advising
- Exposure to cultural trips and events
- Peer Mentoring
- Workshops on various topics of interest to students
- Grant Aid
- Computerized learning laboratory
