Lafayette-Yalobusha Technical Center hosts Scholastic Institute. In partnership with local high schools, Scholastic Institute offers the unique opportunity to earn a high school diploma and an associate degree during the last two years of high school.  Beginning their junior year, students enroll in dual credit courses at their high school and at Northwest’s Lafayette-Yalobusha Technical Center campus in Oxford.  Students can earn up to 60 hours of transferable college credit to universities while participating in college clubs and activities and have access to student services, including transfer advising. 

What Students Can Expect While Enrolled 

  • NWCC will work with each student and their high school counselor to develop a flexible course schedule.
  • Students will have the opportunity to get a head start on their college career by earning up to 60 transferable college hours.
  • Students will have access to any academic pathway Northwest offers, depending on the campus they choose to attend
  • Students will have access to experienced faculty in a wide range of fields of study.
  • Students can take advantage of a wide variety of student services, including transfer advising.
  • Students can engage in college organizations and activities while still being involved in their high school extracurricular interests.

What Students Can Expect After Completing 

  • High school graduation
  • Associate degree with up to 60 transferable college credits to a university
  • Transfer scholarship opportunities to universities
  • A connection with other college learners and a strong academic foundation
  • Increased level of independence and maturity to help prepare students for their next phase in life

Requirements 

  • Meets all eligibility criteria for dual credit/dual enrollment
  • Is a junior (14 Carnegie units) in good standing with a GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Must submit an unconditional letter of recommendation from his/her high school principal or counselor
  • Displays the necessary responsibility and maturity to manage the independent nature of a college environment
