Proctored Exams

1. Test at an NWCC campus with an instructor or proctoring group. (Your instructor will provide more information about dates/times.)
2. Test with an NWCC eLearning Proctor by scheduling an appointment using Smarter Proctoring.
3. Test at another MS Community College by scheduling an appointment using Smarter Proctoring.

Upon entrance to the proctoring center, students will be required to verify their identity using a valid photo ID (student ID, driver’s license, government-issued ID, or the Mississippi Mobile ID are accepted). With proper identification, no additional student charges are associated with verifying the student’s identity.

** It is important to note the differences between Sign Up Genius and Smarter Proctoring. Smarter Proctoring is a scheduling tool built within your Canvas course that allows you to schedule an appointment to test with eLearning staff at our main proctoring lab or at a time when eLearning staff is at one of the satellite campuses. Instructors or instructor proctoring groups will often use the 3rd party site, Sign Up Genius, as a scheduling tool for the times they offer exams in other labs at the Senatobia, DeSoto, and Oxford campuses. **

If you are out of state or not utilizing a Mississippi community college proctoring center, please review the information below carefully. You must finalize your off-campus proctoring arrangements at least one week before your scheduled exam, as the approval process takes several days to complete. Students who choose to complete required proctored assessments at an alternative third-party testing center are responsible for any fees charged by that provider. These fees are billed directly by the testing center and are not assessed or collected by Northwest Mississippi Community College.

1. Locate a proctoring center near your current location to test (most colleges and universities have them).
2. Download the required Off-Campus Proctor Approval and Proctor Confidentiality Agreement form and complete the student section.
3. Have the proctor at the testing center you located complete the rest of the form and send it along with a copy of their staff ID to elc@northwestms.edu at least one week before the scheduled exam time. (eLearning must receive the completed forms from an "out-of-state" proctor. Proctoring credentials must be verified, and approval must be granted before the exam access code is provided to the proctor.)

4. Schedule a time within the exam window to test with the proctor at the approved testing location.

Students MUST know their Canvas log in credentials.  The proctor will not be able to provide this information for you. 

Northwest Testing Procedure: 

• The student must present an official photo ID: a driver's license, student ID, or other government-issued identification (a photo of an ID will not be accepted).
• Once a student begins an exam, the student is not permitted to leave the testing center until completion of the exam.
• No food or drink is allowed in the testing center.
• No talking during an exam.
• Students are not allowed to visit other web browsers during an exam.
• Only permitted materials as listed by the instructor are allowed at the desk during an exam.
• No restroom breaks.

• All personal items, including cell phones and smart watches, must be locked in our NWCC lockers or stored away as directed. (Cell phones may be needed for Multifactor Authentication)

• No smoking, tobacco, or vapor products allowed in the testing room.
• Hats, hoodies, or any clothing that covers the face and ears are not allowed. Proctors may ask students to remove such items before testing.
• Only persons taking a proctored exam are allowed in the testing room.
• Students or visitors are not to bring small children to classroom buildings or the testing center.
• Students are monitored by proctors; any suspicious behavior will be addressed immediately.
• Cheating violations will be reported to the instructor and the Dean of eLearning.

Failure to comply with the testing procedure will result in removal from the testing center immediately, regardless of testing status.
