Lady Ranger basketball fans may think they are seeing double when they watch Northwest in action this semester. Identical twins Brittany (right) and Brandy (left) Walls of Red Banks will both be playing as guards for Coach Don Edwards.
The twins, now 18, started playing basketball in fourth grade at the age of 10. When it comes to sibling rivalry, the two are very competitive and say they enjoy playing one-on-one with each other. The identical twins also enjoy confusing people on the basketball court.
According to Sandrika Bowen, a close friend and teammate, practice can sometimes be a little confusing.
“It’s different because I never know who they are. They are really going to hurt some people this year! I’ll guard the wrong person sometimes,” Bowen said.
When they are not on the basketball court, the Walls sisters share another hobby, shopping.
“We like to eat, sleep, text, and shop” they said as they laughed together.
The Walls sisters say they chose Northwest because their mother attended here and it is close to home. The twins attended Bishop Byrne High School in Memphis where they first began playing basketball together. Both girls collected awards during their high school careers.
Brandy Walls was selected All-District (2008 & 2009), named team captain and Best of the Preps by The Commercial Appeal (2009), inducted into school’s Hall of Fame, and led the team to its first state championship (2009). She averaged 12.2 points a game.
Brittany Walls was named All-District (2008 & 2009), Best of the Preps by The Commercial Appeal and All-Shelby Metro (2009), inducted into school’s Hall of Fame, led the team to its first state title and was selected Most Valuable Player of the championship game (2009). Her point average was 12.8.
The sisters are both majoring in Pre-nursing and they hope to get into The University of Southern Mississippi after they graduate from Northwest.
