Anyone that has been on the Senatobia campus for any period of time would notice that there are improvements being made. While there are three separate construction projects underway at the time, the Student Executive Council says that there are still more improvements needed.
According to Northwest’s Director of Campus Life and Housing, Aime Anderson, the Student Government Organization and the Student Executive Council are working diligently to ensure that these improvements to the campus be made.
The S.E.C, led by Anderson and presided over by President John Farrish, has been very busy lately spearheading many projects that seek to make this campus a better place for all its students.
“The main purpose of this council is to create a more suitable campus for those who follow in our footsteps,” declares Anderson.
Student safety has been the main concern of the council for the fall semester. Just recently the group has been pushing for crosswalks to be placed in front of the Haraway Center, as well as pointing out unlit areas of campus, so that better lighting could be put in place for students with night class.
They have also given hope to tennis players by trying to improve the tennis courts and get the fences around them better enforced.
The council recently had the privilege of meeting with Northwest President Dr. Gary Lee Spears to discuss the improvements being made.
Along with showing his appreciation for their efforts, he elaborated on the school’s “Building on Tradition” program that has been underway for nearly 3 years now.
Spears said that the college is currently in the process of constructing a three-story math building, an early childhood education technology building, and will begin construction on a new nursing facility in Spring 2009.
He also announced plans for a new Health Care Center, which will provide health needs for anyone on campus.
Spears said, “I am very much aware of what the campus looks like from my office, and the administration is willing to work with the S.E.C in any way possible to improve this campus.” |
