BoltonRecruiting event showcases Northwest to high school seniors

By: JENNA LOSTRITTO

Northwest’s annual recruiting event ‘Go West’ was held Nov. 18 and 19 on the Senatobia campus. More than 400 high school seniors from area Mississippi school districts attended.

“Our intention is to give students the opportunity to visit the campus, meet faculty and educate them on what Northwest offers,” said Jere Herrington, director of Recruiting. “It’s been very successful thus far,” she said. “We’ve had over 200 students both days.”

According to Assistant Director of Recruiting Abby Red, the event provides an opportunity for seniors to learn more about Northwest and meet other students interested in the same major. “We had an excellent turnout this year. Everything was very well organized, and I believe the students really enjoyed it,” said Red.

Attendees watched a recruiting video portraying the everyday lives of Northwest students, extracurricular activities on campus and the benefits of attending Northwest.
Some students won door prizes such as T-shirts, umbrellas, hats, binders, bags and key chains. Kayla Burns from Holly Springs was the recipient of a half tution scholarship to Northwest. More

McQuirter determined to bring two friends home

Written by Melanie Crump

McquirterChristmas is the time of year many look forward to for the gifts it brings and the families it helps bring together, but one Northwest student’s determined mission shows everyone the true meaning of the giving season.

Recently at Palm Beach International Airport, a twin-engine plane crash claimed the lives of the four passengers. Among those were Kristopher Henegar and his brother Kyle Henegar.
This incident struck Dena McQuirter, a sophomore social work major from Senatobia, especially hard. McQuirter, a life-long friend of the Henegar brothers and their family, seemed at a loss when she learned about the death of her friends.

When she learned that the Henegar family’s financial situation made it impossible for them to fly the remains of the two young men home from Florida or even to give them a funeral if they could get them home, McQuirter decided to take action. More
