Davis brings energy to classroom

Jennifer Black Davis, Northwest alumna (class of ’94), is the newest faculty member of the Practical Nursing program on the Senatobia campus. She joined the faculty full-time following the retirement of Jane Hancock.

Davis has been working in the medical field for 15 years. She came to Northwest from Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto where she served as a registered nurse in the Emergency Department.
With more than 14 years of experience as an RN, Davis has worked at North Oak Regional Medical Center in Senatobia, Methodist University Hospital in Memphis and The Regional Medical Center-Elvis Presley Memorial Trauma Center in Memphis.

She is currently working on coursework toward a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.
In addition to her medical experience, she was owner of Precious Petals Flowers and Gifts in Senatobia from 2001 to 2004.

Davis has been teaching at Northwest for a year now. She was an adjunct instructor last year. “I absolutely love [teaching at Northwest], and I hope to retire from this job one day,” she said.
Davis said that she always wanted to be a nurse. “It’s the foundation of making people better,” she said.

She also said that compassion is what makes a good nurse and she enjoys working with her students. “They provide me a renewed enthusiasm in learning and caring for patients. Their excitement is contagious,” said Davis.

Davis is the daughter of Dr. J. Larry Black, a longtime family medical practitioner in Senatobia, and the late Jeanine Black. Her sister, Robyn Caldwell, is a member of the Associate Degree Nursing faculty.

Davis’ husband Terrell is also a nurse. They have two children, Abbey, 7 and Anna-Lauren, 2.
