Starting in the Fall of 2010, students will have the opportunity to pick one more program from the myriad of programs already offered at Northwest.
The new program, Marketing Communications/Public Relations Management will focus both on business and public relations and will help students perfect writing skills among other factors.

The program was initiated by Amy Payne, director of Northwest’s Business Division. Payne picked the program because of its transfer equivalencies to some four-year institutions around the state.Payne is always looking for new programs to offer students.

“I want to offer as many majors to suit the many different interests of our students as I can,” says Payne. She feels that this program is strong and will continue to be a strong program. According to Payne she hopes students will see the program and feel that it is something they would be interested in.

“This program will make students more marketable in the workforce and is flexible with different careers,” said Payne.

With classes such as Accounting, Principles of Journalism and Business Communications, this program will introduce two different majors while merging them into one result. Emphasis in the program includes Public Relations/Reputation Management, Newspaper Management, Broadcast Management and Magazine Publishing.

While the program is currently only transferable to The University of Mississippi, a recent article in The Democrat, reported that studies are showing Marketing/Advertising/PR is one of the best fields of study for college freshmen to choose.

Students can now pre-register for the program for fall 2010 classes. The program is listed under Business in the 2010 Northwest Bulletin.
