Golf team closes season

The Ranger golf team closed the regular season by placing fifth and sixth at a pair of events.
Northwest finished 6th at the Northeast Invitational March 29 at Shiloh Ridge Golf Course in Corinth and 5th at the Itawamba Invitational March 30 at River Birch Golf Course in Amory.
The Rangers shot a team score of 306 at the Northeast Invitational to finish 22 strokes behind champion Copiah-Lincoln which turned in a 295. Northwest followed that up with a score of 304 at the Itawamba Invitational to place eight strokes behind champion Gulf Coast.
Ranger freshman Richard Howell of Nesbit earned a spot on the All-Tournament team at both events for placing in the top five. Howell finished tied for fourth at the Northeast Invitational with a score of 73, and carded a 72 at the Itawamba Invitational to grab the runner-up spot.
Northwest freshman Garrett Tidwell of Southaven tied for 14th at the Northeast Invitational with a 75, followed by sophomore Grant Goforth of Batesville and freshman Ryan Williams of Southaven who tied for 33rd place with scores of 79. Freshman Hewston Vancil of Senatobia shot an 81 to tie for 40th, while freshman Justin Jones turned in a score of 84 and tied for 49th.
At the Itawamba Invitational, Williams shot a 76, followed by Tidwell with a 77, Goforth and Vancil at 79, and Jones with an 87.
The Rangers placed fourth at the MACJC State Tournament April 12-13 at Eagle Ridge Golf Course in Raymond.
