“DeSoto Center has made it possible for me to go to college,” said Ellison. “I love being in Mississippi—the people are so friendly and my instructors are great. I’m so excited about my career path. I want to change the world.”
Waller is president of the Student Executive Council on the Senatobia campus. He is past president of Phi Theta Kappa, the Ranger Band, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He is one of two drum majors for the Ranger Marching Band this year.
“Making the team says that all the work that I have done here at Northwest counts for something, my work paid off,” said Waller. “When you do activities and join organizations on campus, you do not really expect to get anything in return, but this was unexpected, however, it was greatly appreciated. It made all the stressful times worth it.”
Waller plans to get his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and in Higher Education, so that he can work for a college in an area of student affairs. “I figured that’s what I do now and I enjoy doing it. I enjoy finding problems on campus and working to find the solution. So I figured why not do it as a career,” acknowledged Waller.
“The person who has had the most influence on me would have to be Aime Anderson (director of Campus Life and Housing). Because of her I have the job that I do on campus being a dorm supervisor on campus for the weekends. She has always been there even though she has so much going on. I think that is the reason why I want to go into student affairs because she does so much and is involved in so many ways,” said Waller.
