Under the skilled direction of Sadie Magadanz, Northwest will debut Lee Blessing’s psychodrama “Two Rooms,” a play set in turbulent 1980, on its stage April 29-May 2.
According to Magadanz, she became interested in directing the drama because she wanted to showcase a play that will make the audience do more than just enjoy it.
“I was asked to look for a show with a small cast and minimal set. This play by Blessing is perfect for what was asked of me and what I wanted”
“I am starving for a final product that ignites thought and question,” she said.
With rehearsals well underway, Magadanz feels she couldn’t have asked for a better cast.
“They always have questions, which means they are thinking. Smart actors think,” she said.
The character of Michael Wells will be portrayed by sophomore Billy Leishman, a Psychology major from Senatobia, while Lauren Fore will be featured as Lainie Wells. Walker Harris will be played by freshman Joe Arndt, and freshman Cheyenne Stewart will play the role of Ellen Van Oss. Leishman, Fore, and Arndt were recently cast in “West Side Story” that ran on the Northwest stage in March.
“It’s (Two Rooms) not your average drama,” said Leishman.
According to Fore, an English major from Senatobia, she can really relate to her character Lainie because of a personal experience from her childhood.
