Northwest exhibition to feature artists’ inspiration

The upcoming Northwest Mississippi Community College exhibition “Fortunes Drawn” will feature works from regional artists based on inspiration they received from fortunes drawn from fortune cookies or other bits of wisdom. The exhibition will run Feb. 2-27 at the Northwest Art Gallery on the Senatobia campus. An opening reception will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 2. Full story


John Harrell named HEADWAE student of the year for NWCC

The student named by Northwest to be honored as the HEADWAE Student of the Year has not taken the traditional path to college, to say the least. Automotive Technology major John Harrell was headed home from his second tour in Iraq when he was injured. Full story


Lawrence “Bud” Young named HEADWAE instructor for Northwest

This year’s HEADWAE honorees include an American hero and a longtime coach and instructor at Northwest. HEADWAE stands for “Higher Education Appreciation Day Working for Academic Excellence. Full story


Upcoming Northwest "Cats" production will have reserved tickets

Tickets for Northwest Mississippi Community College’s production of Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Cats” will be reserved seating only, according to Jo Ellen Logan, the show’s director. Full story


Northwest reports record spring enrollment

A new record has been set in spring enrollment at Northwest Mississippi Community College.  Spring Semester 2008 enrollment reached an all-time high with 6,957 students at all campus locations— an overall increase of 571 students. Full story


Southern novel focus of January Reading Roundtable

“When Crickets Cry” by Charles Martin will be the focus of the January meeting of Northwest Mississippi Community College’s Reading Roundtable. The session will be held Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. in the R.C. Pugh Library on the Senatobia campus. Full story


Web design class offered at Northwest

Web Design using Expression Web, worth 1.5 continuing education units (1.5 CEUs) will be offered on three Saturdays in February, according to Patricia Lowder, coordinator of Continuing Education at Northwest Mississippi Community College. Full story


Northwest Heating and Air Conditioning program receives training equipment

Northwest Mississippi Community College’s Heating and Air Conditioning Technology program received $10,200 worth of new equipment to aid in training for students last month, according to Whit Perry, lead instructor of the program.

Bard Manufacturing Company of Bryan, Ohio donated the new equipment to the college in December, Perry said.  “They stated they wanted to help certified institutions that have acquired the PAHRA accreditation,” he said. Full story

ACT Preparation Workshop offered Jan. 26-27

Northwest Mississippi Community College is offering an ACT Preparation Workshop on Monday, Jan. 26 and Tuesday, Jan. 27 from 6-9 p.m. Deadline to register for the class is Friday, Jan. 23 by noon. Full story


Beginning genealogy class offered through Northwest

Local genealogy expert Gail Tomlinson, current president of the Mississippi Historical Society will offer “Genealogy:Explore Your Roots” on Tuesdays, Feb. 3-24 from 6-8 p.m. at the Tate County Genealogical and Historical Society, according to Patricia Lowder, coordinator of Continuing Education at Northwest Mississippi Community College.
