Auditions for Northwest Mississippi Community College’s next production, “Tartuffe: Born Again” will be held on Monday-Wednesday, March 2-4 at 6:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Senatobia campus. Northwest sophomore Jamison White of Horn Lake will be the director of the play.
According to White, there are parts available for six males and five females. All auditioners should be late teens and older, he said. There are no parts for children.
“Tartuffe: Born Again” was translated and adapted by Freyda Thomas from the original “Tartuffe” by Moliere. According to the Web site at Samuel French, Inc., “this modern adaptation casts Tartuffe as a deposed televangelist who rooks Orgon and his family of their money and property and nearly compromises Orgon's wife. The action takes place in a religious television studio in Baton Rouge where the characters cavort to either prevent or aid Tartuffe in his machinations. Written in modern verse, ‘Tartuffe: Born Again’ adheres closely to the structure and form of the original. Moliere's legendary comedic characters are delightfully at home in this modern day version that played at New York's Circle in the Square.”
