Accident claims life of NW student

One Northwest student was killed and three others received minor injuries in a one-vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Brownlee and Hogs Foot Road in Strayhorn, according to police.

Cameron Hunt, of Olive Branch, who was driving the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Passengers Mandy Bolden of Holly Springs, Casi Brooks of Pope and Austin Watts of Olive Branch were transported to the Med in Memphis.

Bolden was released from The Med, but Brooks is being held over the weekend for further tests and evaluation, according to hospital officials and friends.

The accident occurred at about 11 p.m. Thursday night while the four were headed towards Senatobia from a residence in the Strayhorn community.

Colton Ellis, an eyewitness to the accident and close friend to those in the wreck said that while driving on Brownlee Road, Hunt’s truck went into a sharp curve going too fast and he lost control of the vehicle, flipping several times.

“I was following right behind them when it happened. He was just going too fast and hit a almost 90 degree curve ” Ellis said.

According to police, the place where the wreck took place is a “Blind T” curve and past accidents have happened there.

The accident is currently under investigation, but the officers and investigators that are working the case are unavailable at this time.

Hunt was a student at the Desoto campus. Bolden and Brooks are both students at the Senatobia campus and are on the Lady Rangers softball team. Watts is a Pre-Nursing major at the Senatobia campus.

Hunt is survived by his mother, Sandy Hunt and two brothers Kyle and Steven.

Funeral services were held Monday, August 24 at Brantley Funeral Home in Olive Branch and burial was at Autumn Woods Memorial Park.
