Northwest to offer several non-credit classes Chair Caning will be offered Sept. 1-22 from 6-9 p.m. in the Art Building, Room TBA. The deadline to register for this class is Aug. 31. Students will be taught to weave a chair seat with fibre rush—a very durable, one-ply twisted paper, made to resemble real twisted bull rushes. Students will also be given an option of using seagrass and split reed. Students may supply dining chair, rocker or child’s chair or purchase a kit from instructor Sharon Williams. The fee for the class is $60 plus supplies—$10 if student provides chair/stool, $20 if instructor provides stool. Watercolor, Acrylic and Oil Painting will be offered Sept. 3-Oct. 8 from 6-8 p.m. in the Art Building, Room 205. The deadline to register for this class is Sept. 2. Demonstration and instruction on landscape painting only will be provided in multi-media including tempera, watercolor and oil using various surfaces, including paper and canvas. Students should bring any supplies they have to the first session, and suggested list of supplies will be provided at that time. The instructor for the class is Lane Tutor. The fee for this class is $70 plus supplies. Upholstery 101 will be offered Sept. 9-Oct. 7 from 6-8 p.m. in the Art Building, Room 205. The deadline to register for this class is Sept. 7. In this class, students will learn the basics of upholstery—the skills, materials, tools and tricks of the trade. The first class consists of discussing fabrics, tools and supplies needed for projects. Students will be required to bring a small piece of furniture to work on. They will learn how to cut fabric, how to attach it to the furniture and attach trim. The instructor for the class is Gloria Singleton, and the fee is $130 plus fabric and supplies. Learning the Art of Stained Glass will be offered Sept. 14-Nov. 16 from 6-8 p.m. in the Art Building, Room 205. The deadline to register for this class is Sept. 8. This class is designed for the beginner interested in learning the art of stained glass. Students will master pattern cutting, layout, glass cutting, grinding, foiling and soldering, and will have the opportunity to complete two design projects. The art of creating a stained glass piece is a great stress reliever and lots of fun. The instructor for the class is Bea Howell.
