Northwest to present “Tartuffe: Born Again”

A modern adaptation of Molière’s classic play, “Tartuffe” is next on the agenda for the Northwest Mississippi Community College Theatre Department. Northwest student Jamison White of Horn Lake is directing “Tartuffe: Born Again,”  April 16-19 at the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Senatobia campus.

The play, which was translated and adapted by Freyda Thomas, takes place in the 1980s in a television studio in Baton Rouge, La. and casts Tartuffe as a deposed televangelist who rooks Orgon and his family of their money and property and nearly compromises Orgon's wife.

The cast includes Casey Davis as Mrs. Pernell, Kevin Porter as Orgon, Alyssa McElfresh as Elmire, Brittany Hill as Mary Ann, Ryan Marshall as Damis, Evan Campbell as Valere, Drew Carlton as Cleate, Josh Chadwick as Tartuffe, Megan Clayton as Dorine, Elizabeth Pettit as Ms. De Salle and Major Davis as Agent Loyal.

In addition to directing the play, White is also responsible for scenic and sound design. Assisting him on the crew are Christine Garner, stage manager; Terry Scott, technical director; Katie Buntin, props; Will Bryer, lighting design and crew; Sarah Pierce, costume design; Ariana Nowell, hair and makeup and Renate Ferreira, poster and program design. Other crew members include Eric Abraham, Aaron Nichols, Robert Sapp and Sara Schwenk. Scenic Construction crew members are Josh Chadwick, Megan Clayton, Christine Garner, Elizabeth Pettit and Sarah Schwenk.

Show times are Thurs.-Sat., 7:30 p.m. and Sun. at 2:30 p.m. General admission is $10 and students and seniors are $5. “Tartuffe: Born Again” is being produced by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
