Northwest responds to employment needs with four summer classes In an effort to respond to the recent trend in increasing unemployment, Northwest Mississippi Community College will offer four accelerated, non-credit training programs this summer on the Senatobia campus. Registration for these classes will be held May 27, according to Jerry Nichols, dean of Career and Technical Education. “Since these are certificate courses, regular admission standards will not be required. Students will be TABE tested and must have a high school diploma or GED.” To allow time for testing, those interested in the CNA class must apply by May 8. Prospective students interested in Commercial Truck Driving, Welding or Industrial Maintenance, should apply by May 18. Classes begin May 28 and will run through July 30. There are approximately 320 clock hours of training in the classes, which are held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. “We hope these classes, which are geared for adults, will help put people to work who are unemployed or underemployed,” said Nichols. “Space is limited in these classes,” said Nichols. “The application process is competitive. There may even be funding through the WIN Job Centers to help with tuition on these classes.” The $2,000 tuition covers all fees and books.
