Announcement of Kelly W. Hudson Endowed Scholarship
By Nancy Patterson | 4/16/09
The Kelly Wayne Hudson Endowed Scholarship has been established through the Northwest Mississippi Community College Foundation, according to Sybil Canon, director of Development.
Hudson, a computer technologist at Dunlap and Kyle, the parent company for Gateway Tire, died Jan. 29 of this year in an automobile accident.

He graduated from West Panola Academy where he was the valedictorian of his senior class, a member of the Hall of Fame, Star Student, and a varsity athlete in baseball and football.
After attending Northwest, Hudson transferred to The University of Mississippi where he earned a B.S. in accounting. He was employed as an assistant manager at Gateway Tire in Senatobia for six years and had been serving in his current position with the company for the past eight years.
An avid outdoorsman and former champion of the IBO Indoor World Championship (archery), Hudson was a Little League baseball and softball coach.

The scholarship was established by Bobby Dunlap, president and CEO of Dunlap and Kyle, with assistance from Hudson’s parents—Bobby and Betty Herron Hudson of Batesville, his brothers Randall Hudson of Olive Branch and Chris Hudson of Courtland, and his sister Sharon Hudson of Batesville, according to Canon.
Hudson is survived by two daughters, Kayla M. Roden of Starkville and Karrah Tassie Hudson of Pope; and one son, Zackary Ky Roden of Pope.
“We all attended Northwest,” said his sister Sharon, who teaches at Magnolia Heights in Senatobia. “This would mean a lot to him.”
The scholarship is to be awarded to a graduating senior from the South Panola School District. Preference will be given to students majoring in accounting or computer science. The first scholarship will be awarded in the 2009-2010 academic year.
