Northwest’s Delta Epsilon Chi Chapter at DeSoto Center has had a very successful spring 2008 semester thus far.

The Chapter attended the Mississippi Delta Epsilon Chi State Career Development Conference in Hattiesburg, Feb. 27-29. Fifteen students attended the conference and competed in several business simulations and case studies.

Eleven students placed in the top six within their events, which makes them eligible to attend the International Career Development Conference in Atlanta.

Matthew Harpe won first place in Restaurant and Food Service Management.

Amanda Packard and Adam Fullilove won second place in Sports and Entertainment Marketing. Daniel Conners won fourth place in Travel and Tourism.

Michael and Sarah Shelton won fourth place in Business Ethics. Brittany Barker and Kayla Bridgewater won fifth place in Business Ethics.

Sarah Kate McMillen won fifth place in Human Resource Management. Amber Bell won sixth place in Hospitality.

Chelsea Mullen won sixth place in Travel and Tourism.

Two students also ran for state office. Bill Markley ran for president, while Kayla Bridgewater ran for parliamentarian. Both candidates had to take an exam, deliver a speech and organize a campaign while at the conference.

Voting delegates for each school elected Bridgewater State Parliamentarian. Northwest’s chapter further received two State Charity Recognitions and the Newsletter/Web site award.

Adviser Katherine Mistilis received the highest honor that can be bestowed upon an educator by Delta Epsilon Chi—the Honorary Life Membership award. The Mississippi Chapter presented Mistilis with the Honorary Life Member award at the State Conference.

The Chapter is currently preparing for the International Career Development Conference. Six students will travel to Atlanta to compete against community colleges and universities from around the world.
