February non-credit classes

A variety of non-credit classes, offered by The University of Mississippi and Northwest Mississippi Community College, are on tap for February at DeSoto Center-Southaven.

Six classes are being offered in the Art and Hobby category. Basic Painting with Acrylic is scheduled for Feb. 7 and 14 from 9 to 11 a.m. Jamie Arnold will be the instructor. The fee is $40 plus an additional $25 for supplies.

Landscape Painting and Watercolor, with artist Jim Hardin, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Feb. 21, 28, March 20, 27, April 3, 17, 24, May 1, 8 and 15. The fee is $135, and a supply list will be provided.

Murals Painting on a Large Surface is set for Feb. 28 from 9 a.m. to noon. Jamie Arnold will be the instructor, and the cost is $30 which includes supplies.

Photo Preservation/Scrapbooking will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 21 and 28. The instructor will be Marcie Hadley. Cost for the class is $20 with an additional $50 to the instructor for a kit and supplies.

Sculpture Workshop Session I, taught by artist Rachel Ballentine, will be held on Feb. 21 and 28 from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $25, and a supply list will be provided.

Wire Wrapping Jewelry, to be taught by Beth Day, will be on Feb. 20 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The $25 fee includes supplies.

There are six offerings in the Community Interest category. Bridge Basics will be taught by Sharon Walker on Feb. 21 and 28, from 10 a.m. to noon. The fee is $20.

Church History: The Early Church is scheduled for Feb. 21 from 9 to 11 a.m. with instructor Dr. Lucie Bridgforth. The cost of the one-time class is $15.

Fingerprints: Identification and Classification is a six-hour course set for Feb. 21, 28 and March 6 from 9 to 11 a.m. The fee is $35.

Hockey 101, Session II with Michael Rice and the RiverKings will be held Feb. 3 and 6 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at DeSoto Civic Center. The cost is $10.

North Mississippi Blues Roots is set for Feb. 12 from noon to 1 p.m. at DeSoto Historic Museum in Hernando. Mark Franks is the instructor, and the fee is $15.

Singing Techniques with Dr. Ken Sipley will be held on Jan. 24, 31, Feb. 14 and 21 from 10 to 11 a.m. The fee is $50.

In the Computer category five classes are on the schedule. Access: Advanced is set for Feb. 21 and 28 from 9 a.m. to noon. Jimmie Lou Sparks is the instructor, and the fee is $60.

FrontPage with Regina Rhea will be held Feb. 7 and 14 from 9 a.m. to noon. The fee is $60.

Session I of Internet/E-mail for Seniors will be held Feb. 21 and 28 from 9 a.m. to noon. Cal Campbell will teach the class, and the fee is $60.

Selling on eBay will be instructed by Steve Dodd Feb. 21 and 28 from 9 a.m. to noon. The cost is $50.

Windows: Beginning is set for Feb. 21 and 28 with Paul Grisham. Class will be from 9 a.m. to noon. The fee is $60.

In the Cooking Category, the offering is Chocolate from the Heart. This one-time class will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 9 at Elayne's on the Square in Hernando. The $25 fee includes supplies.

Financial Classes include Introduction to Financial Planning with Brian Burnette Feb. 28 from 9 to 11 a.m. and Wills and Estates with Jack Jones Feb. 14 from 9 to 11 a.m. The fee for each class is $15.

Health and Fitness classes are on the schedule. CPR for Family and Friends will be held Feb. 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Rhonda Holland will teach the class, and the fee is $30.

Faux Finishes, one of the offerings in the Decorating category, is set for Feb. 21 from 9 to 11 a.m. with Mike Mooneyham. The fee is $25.

Let's Get Organized will be held Feb. 7 from 10 a.m. to noon. Maryanne Macdonald is the instructor, and the fee is $20.

Two classes will be offered in February in the Publication category. How to Write a Screenplay will be taught by David Armstrong Feb. 21 from 10 a.m. to noon. The fee is $40.

Writing for Publication is set for Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to noon. Robert Lee Long will be the instructor, and the cost is $25.

Smocking I, on the chart of Sewing classes, will be held Feb. 21 and 28 from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Kathleen Cooper will teach the class. The fee is $30. Students should bring scissors and an additional $12 to the instructor for supplies.

All classes, except where noted, will be taught at DeSoto Center, located at 197 W.E. Ross Parkway in Southaven. Early registration is recommended on these classes.
