Community Choirs
11/23/04
Two new performing groups to the area--the Community Women¹s Choir and a children's choir called the Northwest Mississippi Community College Singing Stars--will present a program of Christmas music in a Dec. 14 concert at the Northwest campus in Senatobia.
The concert, which features both sacred and secular music, begins at 7 p.m. in the recital hall in the Fine Arts Building. Admission is free.
The community choir is directed by Dr. Kenneth L. Sipley, director of the Fine Arts Division at Northwest and director of musical activities at First Presbyterian Church in Hernando. Selections by the women will include an interesting song called "The Twelve Days After Christmas."
The Singing Stars are directed by Mary Sipley, choral director at Bishop Byrne High School in Memphis and assistant music director at First Presbyterian Church in Hernando. This group has already performed at nursing homes in the area, and was featured in November in the Como Opera Guild¹s production of "Hansel & Gretel."
Call Patricia Lowder in Northwest's Continuing Education office at (662) 562-3349 for more information about registering for either group.
