Entertainers/Jazz Band Concert

Northwest Mississippi Community College's Division of Fine Arts will present the Northwest Jazz Band and Northwest Entertainers in concert Thursday, Dec. 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Senatobia campus. The fall concert, titled "In a Jazzy Mood," is free to the public.
The concert will begin with the jazz standard "In the Mood" by Joe Garland, followed by the Duke Ellington classic "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got that Swing)" and Irving Berlin's "Puttin' on the Ritz." The groups will also pay tribute to Ray Charles with a medley of his greatest hits before ending the concert with a performance of Christmas favorites, including "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," "The Christmas Song" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."
Featured vocal soloists for the evening will include Farrah Easter, Kayla Maddox, Joseph Abrams, Georgia Stewart, all of Olive Branch; Zach Hardy Jenny Schultz, both of Hernando; Jerri Fountain of Kosciusko; Cate Hitchcock of Greenville; Kendrick King of Holly Springs; and Corey Williams of Independence.
Director of the 21-member Jazz Band is Assistant Director of Bands Howard Luttrell. Music instructor Saundra Bishop serves as director the the Northwest Entertainers, a song and dance group selected from the Northwest Singers. |
Les Fauves art sale

Northwest Mississippi Community College's student art club, Les Fauves, will hold its annual Christmas Art Sale Friday, Dec. 2, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Art Gallery on the Senatobia campus.
The sale will feature works from art students and faculty, including watercolors, oils, pastels, ink drawings, jewelry and pottery.
Door prizes will be awarded and are funished by art instructors. Lane Tutor will provide pottery, and Terry Pegram and Lawayne House will each donate watercolors.
"This is an opportunity for art students to sell their works and make some extra money to buy art supplies or other essentials," said Pegram. "We invite the public to get started on their Christmas shopping by coming by and purchasing some great artwork."

Scholarship established for Panola County sheriff

Friends and colleagues of Panola County Sheriff David Bryan have established an endowed scholarship in his memory. Sheriff Bryan died in April of this year. (full story)
