Northwest Mississippi Community College will offer several continuing education classes on the Senatobia campus during the month of June, according to Patricia Lowder, coordinator of Continuing Education.
IC3 Certification, which carries 7.5 continuing education units (CEUs) will be taught Mondays- Fridays, June 2-20 from 8:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m. in the Berry Building, Workforce Lab. Helen Williamson will be the instructor for this course.
This 75 hour course will prepare participants for the three Internet and Computing Core (IC3) certification exams, which help teachers meet one of the requirements for the ICT endorsement. It will cover the objectives on Computing Fundamentals, Key Applications and Living Online, which are the three required exams leading to the certification. Participants will learn how to get around on Internet Explorer and how to use other browsers, set up an e-mail account and send and receive e-mail, attach a file or picture, customize Internet Explorer, and print effectively.
The fee for the workshop is $225 if paid on or before May 27, and includes a textbook, assessment and tutoring tools, and an exam voucher. After May 27, the fee will be $235. To become IC3 certified, participants must pass all three exams. Enrollment is limited for this workshop.
The Stock Market Game Workshop (.5 CEU) will be offered on Tuesday, June 10 from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. in the Tunica Building, Lab 136. The Mississippi Stock Market Game is a program of the Mississippi Council on Economic Education, and is the premier student competition that introduces students to interactive learning about the business world. Teachers of grades 4-12 will learn how to use the actual stock market and integrate it into math, economics, social studies, English, technology and business education classes. Teachers will learn how to teach the Stock Market Game to students, how to use the curriculum materials that accompany the program, how to understand the economics of the securities markets, and how to make students eligible or scholarships with the Stock Market Game essay contest. The fee for this workshop is $25 to cover the cost of CEUs. Lunch will be provided.
The Investor Education Workshop (.5 CEU), which is a program of the Mississippi Council on Economic Education, will be offered on Wednesday, June 11 from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. in the Tunica Building, Lab 136. This workshop will provide instruction on Learning, Earning and Investing, a curriculum published by the National Council on Economic Education. Some of the topics that will be covered are financial investing, saving, the stock market, financial institutions, building wealth and researching companies. This workshop is a great follow-up to the Stock Market Game Workshop. The fee for this workshop is $25 to cover the cost of CEUs. Lunch will be provided.
A Grant Writing Workshop (1.0 CEU) will be offered on Tuesday, June 17 from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. in the Haraway Center. The workshop which will be led by Bob Bradley, is geared for both the inexperienced and experienced proposal writers who wish to lean how to create hard-hitting, targeted proposals. The fee for the workshop is $125 if paid on or before June 10, and $150 if paid after June 10.
PowerPoint 2007 (2.0 CEUs) will be taught June 23-27 from 8 a.m.- noon in the Tunica Building, Lab 130. Helen Williamson will help participants learn how to give a “Knock your socks off” presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint 2007. Participants will learn to quickly and efficiently develop dynamic, professional looking presentations by combining text, graphics, and visual effects on presentation slides. This class is for everyone including business people, educators and trainers. The fee for the workshop is $75 if paid on or before June 16, and $85 if paid after June 16. The fee includes a book and a CD.
