Northwest Mississippi Community College Nursing Instructor Charisse Reed was recognized as the Associate Degree Nurse Educator of the Year at the Mississippi Organization of Associate Degree Nurses Convention (M-OADN) on April 6-7 in Vicksburg.

"I was very honored to receive this award because the students were the ones who nominated me. Other fine instructors were nominated, so I was thoroughly surprised and very honored to be appreciated," Reed said. "I love teaching students about nursing because that's what I love to do."

Reed started the LPN program on the Senatobia campus and was involved in the program for 10 years. She then got her master's degree and began teaching in the RN program in 1993.

"Charisse Reed is one of the finest nursing instructors I have ever known," said Dr. Marilyn Bateman, Northwest academic dean. "She has been on our nursing faculty for 23 years. Charisse is competent, efficient and dedicated to her profession. On her last evaluation, Northwest Nursing Division Director Vicki Hale listed as Charisse's three strong points that she loves students, loves nursing, and loves teaching. That statement is an accurate description of her."
