Northwest Student Nurses honored

Northwest Mississippi Community College's Student Nurses’ Association (SNA) earned top honors in the state when 53 members and 14 faculty members attended the 2006 Annual Convention for the Mississippi Associate Degree Nurses and the Mississippi Organization for the Associate Degree Nursing Students in Vicksburg April 6-7.

The students won the "Spirit of the Community "Award for their community service project “Operation Hurricane Katrina Relief.” Two Associate Degree Nursing schools, Pearl River Community College and Gulf Coast Community College, received monetary donations from Northwest SNA to help with students and faculty in need.

In addition, the chapter won the MOSA 2006 Best Overall Scrapbook Award. All awards are on display in the Nursing Lab located on the second floor of the Tunica Building on the Senatobia campus.

Two students were elected to serve on the Mississippi Organization of Associate Degree Nursing Student Board: Scarlett Shields-Bolton of Pope was elected MOSA treasurer and Jenni Rich of Senatobia won MOSA vice president.

Claudia Burkes of Batesville will serve another term as MOSA adviser and as a board member for the state organization. Denise Bynum, nursing instructor of Senatobia was elected to serve as board secretary.

Two students were individually honored: Meggan Cargile of Senatobia was recognized as the Outstanding ADN Student for Northwest and received a certificate. Mark Wilson from Olive Branch was honored for his nomination for the Bobbie Anderson Scholarship and received a certificate.
