The deadline to register for several Kid's Kollege summer camps and classes is May 31, according to Patricia Lowder, coordinator of Continuing Education at Northwest Mississippi Community College.
Golf Camp for grades 4-8, will be held at the Northwest tennis courts on the Senatobia campus from 8:30-11:30 a.m., June 5-9. Students will learn the fundamental techniques and scoring and terms used in golf. Students should bring their own clubs if possible. Cameron Blount, intramural sports and recreation manager is the instructor, and the fee is $75.
Tennis Camp for grades 4-8 will be held June 5-9 from 1-4 p.m. at the Northwest tennis courts. The camp will teach the fundamentals of the game, including rules, etiquette, grip, and serves. Student should bring their own rackets if possible, but some rackets will be available upon request. The class will also be taught by Blount, and the fee is $75.
Signing for Kids will be offered for two age groups. The class for grades 2-4, which will be held in Room 104 of the Calhoun Building on the Senatobia campus, runs from June 5-9. The class will be held from 9-11 a.m. and will be taught by Mary K. Rogers, American Sign Language (ASL) instructor. The class for grades 5-7 will be taught by Vera Edwards, ASL instructor, and will be held in room 110 in the Calhoun Building, June 5-9 from 9-11 a.m. Students in these classes will be provided with a fun opportunity to learn a few basic skills in ASL. Students will be introduced to the manual alphabet, vocabulary, songs and more. The fee for the classes is $50.
Spanish for Kids will be held from June 5-16 in the Fine Arts Building, Room 109, on the Senatobia campus. The class, which is geared for grades 1-4, will be taught by Michelle Baird and will run from 1-3 p.m. each day. In this class, students will learn Spanish language and culture. Students will learn numbers, colors, simple greetings, useful phrases and some conversational Spanish. Some activities will include singing and dancing to Latin music. A Spanish fiesta will conclude the class. The fee for the class is $50.
