Northwest Mississippi Community College's Student Nurses Association earned top honors in the state when 16 members and three faculty advisers attended the 2005 Annual Meeting for the Mississippi Associate Degree Nurses and the Mississippi Organization for Associate Degree Nursing Students in Biloxi March 20-April 1.

The students won the Spirit of the Community Award for their community service project "Operation Soldier Appreciation." They also received an award for outstanding service to the community in conjunction with MOSA Make A Difference Day 2004.

The SNA chapter would like to thank all the students, faculty and staff from Northwest campuses who contributed to "Operation Soldier Appreciation." Their help allowed the student nurses to do an outstanding job with the project and win this state recognition. These awards are on display in the Nursing Lab.

The chapter also entered the scrapbook contest, and though the chapter did not receive an award, the advisers feel the two chairmen of the Scrapbook Committee, sophomore Rachel George of Olive Branch and sophomore Krystal Engler of Southaven, did an excellent job.

Two students were also individually honored. Bethany Pipkin of Potts Camp was recognized as the Outstanding ADN Student for Northwest and received a certificate and a free one- year membership in the National Organization of Associate Degree Nursing Students and the Mississippi Organization for Associate Degree Nursing Students.

Amanda Miller of Nesbit was honored by receiving the Bobbie Anderson Scholarship.

Students and faculty attended various workshops at the two-day convention.
