Northwest Mississippi Community College will feature an all-girls cheer squad in the 2004-05 year, announced Pam Wooten, cheer sponsor.

"We're excited to go to an all-girls squad," Wooten said. "It will definitely be a successful year. We have a lot of good talent coming in."

Angie Hoffman Darbonne of Southaven, a member of the Northwest cheer squad that won the 1999 UCA Nationals (co-ed junior college division), will serve as coach.

Darbonne also will lead the squad at its Aug. 9-12 cheer camp on the Senatobia campus.

Returning cheerleaders are Elizabeth Cain of Batesville, Ginger Pickens of Blue Springs, and Haley Harrell and Dana Bolin, both of Grenada.

New members selected to the squad are sophomores Brittany Fitzgerald of Southaven, Jennifer Harlow of Grenada and Monica Polk of Olive Branch; and freshmen Jessica Cain and Billie Claire Darby, both of Batesville, twins Sara and Susan Corey of Southaven, Anna Harrison of Grenada, Paige Brewer of Nesbit, and Candace Hitt, Whitney Jenne and Stephanie Cooper, all of Hernando.

The Northwest cheer squad performs at all Ranger football games, home basketball games and at playoff games as class schedules allow.
