Sophomore Art Exhibition to open following Entertainers spring concert

An evening of art and music is on tap for Thursday, April 14 as the Northwest Mississippi Community College song and dance group, the Entertainers, performs in concert at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Senatobia campus. Admission to the concert is free.

Immediately following the concert (approximately 8:15 p.m.), an opening reception will be held in the Art Gallery for the Sophomore Art Exhibition. The show will run through April 21 and is free to the public.

The Entertainers concert will feature a mixture of tunes from the pop, R&B, country and gospel genres, including "Shining Star" by Earth, Wind and Fire, "Good Vibrations" by the Beach Boys, "Girls' Night Out" by the Judds, "Crazy Little Thing Called Love" by Dwight Yoakam, "I Knew I Loved You" by Savage Garden and the gospel tune "Music Down In My Soul."

The Sophomore Art Exhibition will include paintings, drawings, pottery and other forms of art created by the college's graduating sophomore art students. "This year sophomores will choose their best piece of work from each art class they have taken - drawing I and II, design, advertising design, pottery I and II, painting I and II and computers in art," said Terry Pegram, art instructor.

Members of the Northwest Entertainers, under the direction of Saundra Bishop, are Johanna Becker of Arkabutla; Cheryl Hadley, Megan Lee, Zach Hardy, all of Hernando; Sarah Welborn of Sumner; Heather Worley of Southaven; Erika Lipe of Batesville; Jerri Lynn Fountain of Coila;

Jessica Day of Potts Camp; Corey Williams of Coldwater; Joseph Abrams of Byhalia; Cole Howell, Barry Marshall, both of Munford, Tenn.; Narada Snyder of Oxford; Angela Kelly of Greenville; Malcolm Armstrong of Pittsboro; Daniel Kelly of Courtland; and Sam Palmer of Olive Branch.

Sophomore artists participating in the exhibition include Matthew Allen of Bruce, Anna Brown of Charleston, Corey Freeman of Senatobia, Vanessa Gilpin of Water Valley, Dina Patel of Oxford, Robin Price of Independence, Lee Hill of Olive Branch, Laura Rogers of Hernando, Laura Reinhardt of Horn Lake, Kim Gordon of Southaven, and George Holley of Sardis.
