Nancy Patterson
03/12/04
The CPU Club of Northwest Mississippi Community College will host a free Internet workshop for senior citizens on April 12-13 on the Senatobia campus.
The workshop will be offered from 2-4:30 p.m. each day in Room 203 of Berry Building.
"We are providing the Internet workshop to help people feel more confident and comfortable in using the Web," said CPU Club President Mandi Morris of Batesville. "We'll also cover the use of e-mail and explain about the dangers of downloading and opening files that are potentially harmful to their computer¹s operating system."
The CPU Club, which stands for Computer Professionals United, consists of computer programming and network students who are interested in learning more about computers in the workplace as well as computers in general.
Club advisor Signy Givens said the students suggested the workshop as a community outreach project.
"It was the students' idea to do this," said Givens, who teaches computer information systems technology at Northwest. "We hope to help people feel more comfortable using their computers so they can stay in touch with their families and maybe find information on the Internet."
Please call Givens at (662) 562-3344 to register for the workshop or to request more information.
