| Foundation set to award more than $180,000 for 2006-07 The Northwest Mississippi Community College Foundation expects to award a record $180,000 in scholarships to Mississippi students attending Northwest in the upcoming 2006-07 academic year, according to Sybil Canon, director of Development for the college.by Nancy Patterson 3/8/2006
"In the past five years, the Northwest Foundation has awarded more than $600,000 in scholarships to our students," said Mike Herrington of Olive Branch, president of the Northwest Foundation Board of Directors. "We are excited about that, and we are appreciative to everyone who has contributed to make this possible."
Dr. Robert Smith of Hernando, newly-elected vice president of the Foundation board and past president of the Alumni Association agrees. "Our Foundation is an educational foundation, and every dollar that is given is for that purpose—to promote the mission and goals of Northwest," he said.
Any full-time student who is a resident of Mississippi and who qualifies for admission to Northwest is eligible to apply for a Foundation scholarship, according to Canon. "This means that non-traditional students, as well as students just out of high school, may apply," she said.
Applications must be postmaraked by April 1 or can be hand-delivered to the Foundation Office no later than Monday, April 3 at 4:30 p.m. Letters of recommendation are required. Applications are available on the Northwest's Senatobia, Oxford and Southaven campuses. Students can also download an application from the college's Web site at www.northwestms.edu
