Northwest Mississippi Community College led its peer institutions by capturing six first-place awards in the junior division of the College Public Relations of Mississippi (CPRAM) annual conference May 24-25 in Natchez.

Assistant Director of Public Relations Nancy Patterson of Senatobia won top honors in the digital/art photography category for her homecoming 2003 artwork that appeared on a promotional postcard.

Patterson and Pam Hutcheson, a former part-time public relations assistant, received first place for a tabloid they produced to promote the college's DeSoto Center. The duo also took third place in the tabloid publication category for their work on a general Northwest recruiting tabloid.

Public Relations Assistant Julie Bauer of Southaven earned top honors in the advertisements category for a black and white ad she produced for the Memphis Redbirds' 2003 yearbook.

Bauer and Assistant for Sports Information Brett Brown of Senatobia also won the special publications category for their work on the 2003 all-sports programs and schedules.

Other first-place awards went to college Webmaster David Campbell of Senatobia in the Web page category and to Director of Public Relations Darrin Devault of Memphis, whose portrayal of Northwest alumna Liesl Davenport's work in Operation Iraqi Freedom won the feature story category.

Finally, Patterson placed third in the feature story category for an article titled "Whitten leaves legacy to college, community, students," which she wrote following the death of Dr. Ann Yates Whitten, former public relations director.
