Northwest Mississippi Community College’s Division of Continuing Education is offering a variety of classes on the Senatobia campus during the month of February, according to Patricia Lowder, coordinator of the program.

A new class entitled “Infant Massage” will be offered on Thursday, Feb. 7. The class will be held in the Haraway Center, Room 104 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Brenda Barnett, a massage therapist, will teach when, how and why parents should massage their infants. Parents will also learn techniques to help when the baby has some conditions common to early infancy. Parents are asked to bring a large pillow or cushion and a mat if possible.

The fee for the class is $20 per child aged up to 18 months. There is no charge for parents. The class is limited to eight babies and parents.

“Calligraphy” will be taught on Mondays from Feb. 11- March 3 from 6-8 p.m. in the Art Building. Calligraphy means “beautiful writing” and is an art that just about anyone can learn. It is an art form in which patience and attention to detail are more important than artistic talent. Calligraphy is a fun hobby, a creative art, and can become a great business. The instructor for the class is local artist Debe Slocum. The fee for the class is $75 plus supplies.

Slocum will also offer “Drawing and Painting at your own pace” on Thursdays, Feb. 14-March 20 from 6-9 p.m. in the Art Building. Drawing and painting are the foundation skills of making art. This class will provide a range of experiences in the basic mediums for beginning and intermediate students.

The fee for the class is $75 plus basic supplies. Class will not meet on March 13 due to Spring Break.

“Precious Metals Clay Jewelry Workshop” will meet on Thursdays from Feb. 14-March 6. Carol Stroud a Precious Metal Clay (PMC) Level II artisan will be the instructor for this course. In this course, students will explore PMC as they create original fine jewelry using organic objects, handmade paper or cork clay to uniquely shape the clay. There will be examples of several projects to choose from including bracelets, pins, pendants or earrings. PMC is a soft clay made of fine silver particles binder and water. Ceramic or jewelry experience is helpful, but not required.

The fee for the class is $60 plus a supply fee of $90 or $100 depending on the precious metal market. The deadline to register is Feb. 7, and there are no refunds given after that date.

"Instant Piano for Hopelessly Busy People” will be offered on Tuesday, Feb. 19 from 6-9:30 p.m. The registration deadline for this class is Feb. 14. The class will be held in the Fine Arts Building, Room 110. This course teaches the chords needed to play any pop song in any style, and any key. This is an absolutely beginning course in chord piano. The class will be taught by David Haynes. The fee for the course is $49 plus the book and CD.

“Self Massage: Relax Yourself” will be offered on Thursday Feb. 21 from 6-9 p.m. in the Haraway Center, Room 104. This class will teach students how to overcome stress and tension by learning to relax and feel better naturally. The class will also teach how to prevent tension-related problems from arising. Participants are required to bring a mat. The fee for the class, which will be taught by Barnett, is $50.

“Dichroic Glass Making” will be offered on Saturday, Feb. 23 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Art Building, Room 205. Students will enjoy this “Glowing Jewels of Glass” workshop making cabochons of Dicrohic glass. Class will involve cutting glass of different color layers and one layer of Dicrohic glass to create cabochons. This one-day workshop will include firing and will require waiting for glass to cool down, so bring a lunch or plan for a quick lunch. During this time, the instructor will have PMC jewelry with Dichroic on display and will discuss how PMC can be an excellent way to create your own unique jewelry. A follow up PMC workshop of four sessions will be offered if eight to10 students express interest. The class will be taught by Stroud.

The fee for the class is $65 plus the supply fee, which includes supplies, beginning tools and firing. The registration deadline is Feb. 15. There are no deadlines after that date.

The popular “Basics of eBay Selling” will be offered on Saturday, Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Yalobusha Hall, Room 120.

Students will learn to make a supplemental or full-time income from Olen Batchelor, an eBay trained Certified Education Specialist. This multimedia course will include eBay University’s own training materials and will cover selling basics and beyond, including research, opening and using a Paypal account, improving listings with better descriptions and digital photography, security and post-sale activities such as billing and shipping.

The fee for this class is $50 plus the cost of the book for $17.95.
