About 350 seniors were on the Northwest Mississippi Community College campus on Nov. 16 to explore their college options at the Go (North) West student fair. Students from several area high schools came to campus to hear student and faculty speakers, learn about programs offered by the college, and tour the Senatobia campus.
Northwest students Bart Allen of Senatobia, a Pre-Physical Therapy major; Samuel Gregory, a Business Administration major from Hernando; and Rebekah Green, a Pre-Clinical Laboratory Science major from Coldwater; spoke of their experiences at Northwest. All three students said that they appreciated the small class sizes and financial advantages of attending Northwest, as well as faculty availability.
Both Allen and Gregory enjoyed intramural sports at the college, as well as sporting events and other clubs and groups that are available to students. Green, who has already earned an art degree at Northwest, decided to return to Northwest to pursue a second degree in the Allied Health field.
The keynote speaker for the event was Keith Godbold, director of college admissions at Magnolia Heights School and retired vice-president for Educational Affairs at Northwest. Godbold spoke on today’s fast changing technology, and how students need to prepare for their futures. He spoke of the importance of obtaining a college education, and of the opportunities at Northwest.
Nathan Naramore, a senior at DeSoto Central High School, won a tuition scholarship to Northwest as the door prize.
After breaking off into groups to visit programs of interest, students ate lunch in the Haraway Cafeteria. After lunch, students could chose to take a tour of the campus.
