Pat Miller (center), a Biology instructor at Northwest Mississippi Community College, was honored at the college's faculty and staff "Back To School" meeting on Aug. 14 on the Senatobia campus. Miller's peers voted for her to receive the Sandy Grisham Excellence in Teaching Award. The band's first performance will be during "Meet the Rangers" night, Thursday, August 24 on Bobby Franklin Field beginning at 6 p.m. The event is free to the public. Caleb Lugar and Minnie Young, both of Southaven, have been named Ranger Marching Band Drum Majors for the 2006-2007 season at Northwest Mississippi Community College. Lugar, returning for his second year as drum major, is a sophomore majoring in Business Administration. He plays French horn. He is also president of the Baptist Student Union at Northwest. August Reading Roundtable set at Northwest

This year's Reading Roundtable group at Northwest Mississippi Community College will start the season with a party and sign-up for the semester. Participants will be able to share their summer reading experiences at this session, which will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 28 in the R. C. Pugh Library on the Senatobia campus.
The purpose of the program is to provide a forum for senior adults to read and discuss a variety of books during the course of each semester. Discussions will be led by library faculty at Northwest.
In September, Margaret Rogers, director of Library Resources, will lead a discussion on The Hero Project by Robert and William Hatch.

Spears to kick off Northwest Lunch and Learn

Northwest Mississippi Community College President, Dr. Gary Lee Spears, will be the first Lunch and Learn speaker for the Fall '06 semester on Aug. 23 in the David M. Haraway Center on the Senatobia campus. Dr. Spears will give an update on what is happening at the college today and discuss future plans for the college.
Participants are asked to arrive at the Haraway Center between 11:15 and 11:30 a.m. for lunch, which is a la carte. Following lunch, the presentation will begin. It is expected to last about an hour.
Lunch and Learn is part of the Lifelong Learning program, which is coordinated through the Department of Continuing Education. It is designed to give adults 50 and older an opportunity to interact with faculty members and administrators in a relaxed atmosphere apart from the traditional classroom or office.

"Meet the Rangers" night set August 24 at Bobby Franklin Field

Football season is just around the corner, and the Rangers are getting ready!
The community is invited to Northwest Mississippi Community College's "Meet the Rangers" night at Bobby Franklin Field on the Senatobia campus on Aug. 24 at 6 p.m. The event will be free to the public.
The event will feature a football game, including the Ranger cheerleaders, and a pre-game and half-time show by the Ranger Marching Band and the Rangerettes. The concession stand, manned by members of the Senatobia Lion's Club, will be open for business.
Northwest Student Activities Manager Pam Wooten said, "We thought this would be an incredible opportunity for people in the community to come to campus and check out the football, cheerleading, band and Rangerette programs for the upcoming season. We encourage everyone to bring their families and friends for an enjoyable night of Northwest football."

Event Planning class offered at Northwest

Planning a large event? Need to coordinate a fundraiser for your organization?
Northwest Mississippi Community College's Continuing Education Division is offering "Event Planning" this fall at its Senatobia campus. The deadline to register for this exciting course is Aug. 30.
Event Planning will introduce students to special event planning techniques and processes. Emphasis is on creating, organizing, identifying sponsors, marketing and implementing large scale community events, which include fundraisers and other community events.
The course will be taught by Karla Woods, a Marketing and Event Specialist, in the Haraway Center, Room 104, Sept. 6-Oct. 4 from 6-8 p.m. It is worth 1.0 Continuing Education Unit (CEU).
