Non-credit classes announced

Non-credit classes for the Senatobia campus of Northwest Mississippi Community College September have been announced. These classes range from learning about Spanish to learning computer programs.
Survival Spanish for Medical Professionals will be taught by Deanna Pittman from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 1-29 on Wednesdays in Yalobusha Hall, Room 120 (1.0 CEUs upon request). This course is an introduction to Spanish with emphasis for use in the medical environment. The student will learn knowledge of the language to effectively communicate with patients and co-workers. The cost is $50.
Intro. to the GPS Receiver will be taught from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. by Bud Donahou Sept. 11 through Nov. 6 on Saturdays in the Burks Science Building. This class is for those who are new to using the GPS. It is helpful to hunters, fishermen, travelers and any outdoor explorer. Students will learn the basic functions of GPS navigation to waypoints, navigating to new locations, monitoring speed and measuring distance.
Advance Use of the GPS Receiver will be taught by Bud Donahou 2-5 p.m. Sept. 11 through Nov. 6 on Saturdays in the Burks Science Building. This class includes using additional features of the GPS receiver. This includes creating routes, using the track log, using the "track-back" feature, changing time zones, changing map datum, changing units of measurement, and features of the display page. The GPS classes are $35 for both morning and afternoon sessions or $40 for one class. Garmin Extres receivers will be furnished for student's use in both classes.
Cake Decorating will be taught by Kim Steinman 6-8 p.m. Sept. 13 through Oct. 25 on Mondays and Nov. 1 through Dec. 6 in the Board Dining Room/Kitchen in the McLendon Center Student Union. This beginning class will teach participants the basics of cake decorating, including making the perfect icing, cooking the right recipe, icing a cake, and mastering the basics of flower designs. A supply list will be given at the first class meeting. Due to limited enrollment, early registration is advised. The cost is $40 plus supplies.
Fly Fishing-Beginner and Advanced will be taught by Ned Segan from 7-9 p.m. in the Union gym in the McLendon Center. The beginner class will be on Sept. 13, 15, and 17 (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) and the advanced class will be taught Sept. 27, 29, and Oct. 1 (Monday, Wednesday, Friday). Come join the fun! A lifetime adventure begins with this class. Participants will learn from an expert about fly fishing, tackle, techniques, and basics of fly casting. Learn about leaders, knots, flies, hooking a fish, fighting a fish, landing a fish, and much moreall with a flyrod. Dads: bring your sons and come join the fun! The cost is $40.
A Grant Writing Workshop, titled "Learning to Write Winning Proposals," will be taught by Bob Bradley from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Sept. 28 and 29 (Tuesday & Wednesday) in the McLendon Center in the Board Dining Room on the second floor (1.0 CEUs upon request). Do you have a project you'd like to undertake, but don't know how to access the funds to carry it out? Help is on the way! His workshop is geared for both the experienced and inexperienced proposal writers who wish to learn how to create hard-hitting, targeted proposals! The cost is $135 for regular registration and $175 if received after Sept. 24 or at the door.
Beginning Word will be taught by Earline Cocke on Sept. 28 & 29 (Tuesday & Wednesday) from 2:30-4:30 p.m. in the Tunica Building in the Computer Lab. Students will learn the basic skills of Microsoft Word to create and print documents, graphics, page layouts, etc. The cost is $15.
