Northwest Mississippi Community College has named two new editors to head up the student publications.
Brittany Huggins of Coila takes charge of the Rocketeer yearbook, while Courtney Mims of Hernando oversees The Ranger Rocket.
Huggins, a graduate of J.Z. George High School, worked with her French teacher her senior year to get a grant to start a school newspaper. “Our school and community needed a way to interact with each other,” Huggins said. “I also wanted to get students more involved in something.”
She received the National History Award and the Congressional Art Award. She was the secretary in FCA, and treasurer for her class. Huggins also was a member of the Beta Club and has worked with the elderly and disabled.

Mims, a graduate of Hernando High School, was asked to join her high school paper her sophomore year. In 2002, Mims was chosen as editor and also joined the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association, an association for high school journalists. In 2003, she was named Editor of the Year by the MSPA.
Mims also received awards in advertising design and page layout. She was also president of the Journalism Club, secretary for Quill & Scroll and played varsity soccer.
We are excited about the experience that Brittany and Courtney bring to our student publications this year,” said Darrin Devault, adviser and journalism instructor.
