For the first time in Northwest Mississippi Community College's history, two commencement exercises will be held on May 14 in Howard Coliseum on the Senatobia campus, according to Dr. Gary Lee Spears, registrar.
A morning ceremony for 162 career and technical students receiving Associate of Applied Science degrees and vocational certificates will be held at 10 a.m. Academic graduates will participate in a ceremony at 3 p.m. There are 119 students receiving Associate of Arts Degrees, and 35 nursing graduates.
The total of 577 students participating also breaks a record as the college's largest group of graduates.
According to Spears, this was the reason for having two ceremonies. "We have had a full house the last three years," he said. "We have just about outgrown this facility. Having two ceremonies will give people more room in the stands, and make parking easier."
