CEU workshops offered at Northwest in June

Northwest Mississippi Community College is offering several Continuing Education Workshops in June.

Workshops offered at the Senatobia campus in June include Classroom Management: “You Can Handle Them All.” This three-day workshop, which is being taught by Wendy Gregory, is worth 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs). A variety of videos, class discussions and role playing will be used to provide a unique approach to classroom management. Included in the discussion will be inappropriate student behaviors, how they affect the teacher and fellow students, the needs that the misbehaving student is exhibiting, the common mistakes made when truing to handle the behavior, and the mort successful actions to decrease the inappropriate behaviors.

The workshop will be held from June 11-13 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Haraway Center, Room 104. The fee for the workshop is $65 if paid before June 4. After June 4, the fee is $75.

Creating Documents for the Educator and Other Professionals (1.5 CEUs) will be taught June 11-15 from 9 a.m. to noon, in the Tunica Building, Room 135. Using Microsoft Word, participants will learn the basics of Word and how to create memos, business cards, calendars, letters, mail merge, envelopes, labels and other applications that can be used in the classroom or for other projects. Participants will also learn how to use the free templates online. The instructor for the class is Helen Williamson. The fee is $65 before June 4 and $75 after June 4.

Internet Research for Educators (1.5 CEUs) will be offered June 11-15 from 1 to 4 p.m. This five-day workshop will be taught by Helen Williamson in Room 135 of the Tunica Building. There is an abundance of resources for educators online. This class will show educators how to get started with the use of search engines to look for those resources. Using key words to search for these resources is crucial in getting a successful return of resources. Students will be creating a list of sites for future reference.

The fee for the class is $65 if paid before June 4. After June 4, the fee will be $75.

Basic Spanish for Educators (2.0CEUs) will be taught by Wendy Gregory June 18-21 in Room 104 of the Haraway Center from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This class is designed to introduce basic conversational Spanish that is packed full of “Survival Spanish” for the school setting. Pronunciation and grammar will be emphasized, and a variety of group activities will also be used to facilitate learning.

The fee for the course is $65 if paid before June 6. After June 6, the fee will be $75.
