Northwest Mississippi Community College's Division of Fine Arts will present its fall theatre production of Thornton Wilder's "Our Town"
Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 29-Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. with a Sunday matinee Oct. 2 at 2:30 p.m. All performances will be held in the Fine Arts Auditorium on the Senatobia campus. Admission is $2 for students and senior citizens and $5 general admission.
Considered one of the greatest American dramas of all time, the play will be directed by Northwest theatre instructor S.A. Weakley.
Instructors Doug Bennett and Jo Ellen Logan will serve as technical director and costume designer, respectively.
"Our Town" is set in the fictional community of Grover’s Corners, N.H., and details the interactions between citizens of the town as they live their lives. Wilder commented to writer and playwright Gertrude Stein in a letter written in 1937, "It's a little play with all the big subjects in it." Those subjects, presented in three acts, include daily life, love and marriage, and life and death.
The play opened on Broadway in 1938 and won the Pulitzer Prize for drama that same year. It was adapted into a film in 1940.
Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance from the Northwest Business Office by calling (662) 562-3207.
