Writing Centers

The Writing Centers provide places for all Northwest Mississippi Community College students to work on their writing. The Writing Centers are staffed with consultants who have been trained to help students with any type of writing. The services are free to all Northwest students. Students may drop-in or make an appointment. We provide students with personalized, one-on-one tutoring both face-to-face in the Writing Centers or online through online consultations.

When should I go to a Writing Center? If you’ve been assigned a paper in one of your classes and you find yourself wondering: ”Have I done what the assignment asks?” or “Are there parts that are unclear?” or “Can I make sure that there aren’t a lot of grammar mistakes?” A consultant can help you answer all of those questions and many others.

What should I expect when I go to a Writing Center? There are no grades, no homework, and no grammar drills at the Writing Centers. Instead, you will be asked to identify why you've come to a Center, what sort of paper you're working on, and when it is due. Then you and the consultant will discuss your concerns as well as any added suggestions that the consultant might have.
